If you are considering having your teeth corrected, this post is for you. Today’s article provides details about some of the newest types of braces.
Two popular proprietary orthodontic systems are Invisalign and Damon Smiles. Damon Smiles has created a new device used with the conventional method while Invisalign takes an entirely new approach.
With old-school metal braces, the wires are connected to the teeth with brackets. Damon Smiles created the passive slide mechanism. The wires in Damon Smiles braces pass through a clear plastic bracket that allows the wire to gently move as teeth are pulled into place. Many Missoula orthodontists and patients believe this state-of-the art system provides more flexibility, less pressure, and less friction.
The name Invisalign is an apt description of what this state-of-the-art system does: align teeth invisibly. With Invisalign, patients receive custom plastic aligners that fit snugly over the teeth. Every couple of weeks, as the teeth move, the patient changes the aligners. Patients appreciate the fact that Invisalign trays are barely noticeable and they don’t restrict a normal diet. It is also useful that they are easy to keep clean.
Two variations on traditional braces are ceramic braces and lingual braces. Note that these terms are not brand names.
Ceramic braces work just like traditional metal braces except they are far less noticeable. The brackets on the teeth are made of tooth-colored ceramic and they also offer the option of tooth-colored wires.
Lingual braces are also constructed similar to traditional metal braces, except they are positioned on the inside of teeth – tongue side.
Each of these systems has pros and cons with price being an essential factor for many orthodontic patients.
