There’s a lot to think about as new parents or parents-to-be. Dr. Brett Felton and our friendly team at Felton Dental Care believe that your child’s teeth are on that long list. That’s why we strive to provide the highest quality Family Dentistry in the Missoula area.
For years, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advised parents to begin children’s dentist visits before the third birthday. The AAP and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry now suggests parents to take their toddler to a dentist before their first birthday, or within six months after their first tooth appears.
Why? Prevention, prevention, prevention! Sadly, even though pediatricians guide parents about children’s oral health, dentists find advanced dental cavities in very young children.
In addition, high-risk little ones should be seen as early as possible. Here are some of the risk factors:
- Sleeping with a bottle
- Drinking juice continually during the day
- Abnormal tooth development including demineralization and staining
- Thumb sucking
- Tooth grinding
- A mother with acute dental caries
- Other health problems
Dr. Brett Felton and the friendly team at Felton Dental Care in Missoula take special care of our youngest patients. We believe in making sure that patients are comfortable at our office and we’re understanding of younger patients’ needs. In our office, our philosophy is to treat the whole patient, not just the teeth in their mouth, which is why we take time to get to know your individual concerns. Our goal is to help stave off any negative feelings that you or your child may have about visiting a dentist.
